On behalf of the Hungarian Onco-Diabetology Association (MODE), as a scientific medical organization, I am seeking your support in the effort to stop the simultaneous spread of cancers, diabetes and obesity in society.
The establishment of MODE was called for by the global increase in the incidence of malignant tumours, type 2 diabetes and obesity, and the increasingly recognised relationship between them. The main aim of our association is to promote the widespread and practical implementation of oncodiabetology as a new medical concept and interdisciplinary discipline in order to improve quality of life and survival of people suffering from overweighting/obesity, diabetes and cancer. Our main tasks are to investigate the connections between malignant tumours and alterations in metabolic and nutritional status, to identify and develop better drug formulations based on new insights, and to more effectively improve the prevention of diabetes in cancer patients and of tumours in obese/diabetic patients. We aim to serve as a professional-academic "bridge" between medical professional associations in the fields of oncology, diabetology, endocrinology and obesity. We want to contribute to relevant research, targeted screening tests, training courses, further education and scientific events.
Our work is performed on a social mission basis. Our gain is the better quality of life, longer survival and cure of concerned patients and the effective prevention of the three conditions.
We will hold the world's first scientific conference in the field of oncodiabetology, which will establish a new tradition in the field, on 11th October 2024 in Gyula, in the Almásy Castle, in Békés County, under the name of the 1st Hungarian Oncometabolic and Onco-Diabetology Symposium. Divided into three sections (I. Endocrinology-Metabolism-Obesity, II. Diabetes and III. Oncology), the event will consist of nine lectures
in the domains of obesity, diabetes and neoplasms, and will be addressed by nationally and internationally renowned experts in the field. The objective of our first symposium is to promote linkages between leading experts in the treatment of these common diseases and to facilitate future collaboration between the concerned co-disciplines. In the mid and the long term, our goal is to achieve national and subsequently international acclaim for the meeting, and to develop broader research into the relationships between obesity, diabetes and cancer, and to improve prevention and management of these disorders.
